Tornado Sinks Luxury Yacht Off Sicily, One Dead and Six Missing
A tornado struck a luxury yacht off the coast of Sicily early Monday, resulting in one confirmed death and six individuals reported missing. The yacht, named 'Bayesian,' was anchored near Porticello when the incident occurred around 5 a.m. Italian Coast Guard officials confirmed that 15 people were rescued, including the captain and a child who was airlifted to a hospital in Palermo.
The yacht, measuring 56 meters and flying a British flag, had a diverse group of passengers and crew, including British, Anglo-French, New Zealander, Irish, and Sri Lankan nationals. Rescue operations are ongoing, with divers reaching the yacht's hull at a depth of 49 meters, and helicopters deployed to assist in the search for the missing individuals.
