Russian Soldier Defects to Ukraine After Spying
A Russian soldier, known by the call sign 'Silver', has defected to Ukraine after serving in the Russian army since 2021. He joined the Freedom for Russia Legion, a group of Russian dissidents fighting for Ukraine, citing his unwillingness to fight for Russia during the ongoing war. Silver provided crucial intelligence to Ukrainian forces, including the locations and plans of Russian troops.
During his defection, Silver executed a plan that involved activating explosives in his unit's headquarters, injuring several officers. He expressed his disillusionment with the Russian military, highlighting instances of war crimes and mistreatment within his unit. Following his escape, he is now undergoing training with the Freedom for Russia Legion.
Ukraine's Defense Intelligence noted that Silver's cooperation has yielded valuable information about Russian military operations, enhancing their strategic position on the front lines.
