The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has expressed serious concerns over the deteriorating nuclear safety situation at the Zaporizhzhia power plant in Ukraine, following a recent drone strike near the facility. IAEA head Rafael Grossi emphasized the need for maximum restraint to protect the plant, which is crucial for nuclear safety.

The drone strike impacted an area close to essential water sprinkler ponds and the last high-voltage line, raising alarms about potential risks. The plant, under Russian control since early in the war, has faced repeated attacks, with both sides blaming each other for the incidents.

Despite being inactive for over two years, the situation remains tense as Ukraine continues to target Russian logistical capabilities, including the destruction of bridges in the Kursk region. This marks a significant escalation in the conflict, with foreign troops operating on Russian soil for the first time since World War Two.
