Senator 'Chaqueñito' Benefits from Affordable Housing Program
Javier 'Chaqueñito' Vera, a senator with a monthly salary exceeding G. 37 million, was awarded a department under the Ministry of Urbanism's 'Affordable Housing' program, which is intended for families earning up to G. 14 million. Despite his high income, Vera claims he meets all eligibility requirements, a statement supported by Minister Juan Carlos Baruja.
The contract for the apartment, valued at G. 370 million, was signed on July 7, 2025, with Vera making a minimal initial payment. Critics question the appropriateness of a high-earning senator benefiting from a program designed for lower-income families.
Minister Baruja defended the decision, stating that Vera is a citizen who fulfilled the criteria, and noted that a special resolution was issued to accommodate higher income levels for certain housing projects. Vera has reportedly already moved into the apartment.
