The UK government plans to classify extreme misogyny as a form of extremism, according to Home Secretary Yvette Cooper. A review of the counter-extremism strategy will assess the rise of harmful ideologies, including hatred of women, which Cooper states threatens community cohesion and democracy.

The review will also examine the radicalization of youth and the increasing prevalence of Islamist and far-right extremism. It aims to identify gaps in current policies and develop a new strategy to address emerging threats, as the last comprehensive review was conducted in 2015.

Concerns over misogyny have been heightened by incidents linked to 'Incel culture' and influential figures promoting harmful beliefs. The government acknowledges the need for timely action to combat these ideologies and protect societal values.
