Taiwanese boxer Lin Yu-ting won the gold medal in the 57 kg category at the Paris 2024 Olympics, defeating Poland's Julia Szeremeta 5-0. This victory comes after a gender controversy involving Lin and Algerian boxer Imane Khelife, who were accused of having competitive advantages based on a 2023 gender test by the International Boxing Association (IBA).
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) later refuted these claims, emphasizing that both athletes are women who have competed as such throughout their careers. IOC President Thomas Bach highlighted that the accusations stem from a cultural conflict over the definition of womanhood.
